Guided hydroxyapatite generation — a new pathway

Friday, February 6, 2026 | Posted in GEHA Connection Dental Network News

A recent article by Dr. Lohmann in the November 2025 issue of the Compendium of Continuing Education in Dentistry explores a transformative shift in dental caries management, moving away from the traditional “wait and watch” model and invasive restorative cycle, and emphasizing early, non-invasive intervention. The combination of AI-powered diagnostic imaging and Curodont™ Repair Fluoride Plus — an agent that promotes guided hydroxyapatite generation — enables clinicians to detect and treat incipient lesions before cavitation, preserving tooth structure and improving patient trust.

The new workflow and outcomes

Four diverse clinical cases are presented, demonstrating visible shrinkage and, sometimes, complete resolution of white spot lesions without drilling or anesthesia. The workflow includes early AI detection, lesion isolation and cleaning, application of Curodont, adjunctive home care and structured follow-ups.

Outcomes consistently show lesion stabilization, shrinkage or resolution, even in medically complex or high-risk patients.

The broader impact

Non-invasive therapy reduces surgical burden, improves communication and repositions dentists as proactive primary care providers for oral health. Supported by clinical experience and published evidence, this approach is shown to decrease patient morbidity, enhance satisfaction and help address the economic and systemic consequences of oral disease. The integration of AI diagnostics and guided hydroxyapatite generation thus represents a new pathway for dental care focused on prevention and early intervention.
